International relations

The Norwegian Coastal Administration participates in a number of international forums through the tasks and responsibilities that lie with the agency as the national authority in its specialized areas.

News

  • International work

    The regulatory framework for safety at sea and maritime transport is formulated to a great extent internationally, and binding international cooperation and the international development of regulations are of great importance to safety at sea in Norwegian waters.

  • e-navigation

    Norway has been entrusted by the International Maritime Organization to coordinate the work of developing a proposal for a strategic implementation plan for the global e-navigation concept in 2014.

  • International cooperation

    Very few countries have sufficient resources for combating oil spills and other pollution incidents on their own. Norway therefore cooperates closely with other nations on mutual assistance in the following agreements and forums:

  • BLAST

    BLAST is a regional project for maritime safety in the North Sea region. Over three years, 17 partners from 7 countries, including governmental organisations, universities and private companies, will collaborate to harmonise and integrate land and sea data.

  • The European Union

    Developments within the EU have a direct impact on the Norwegian Coastal Administration's services, and the NCA therefore participates actively in the most important forums for safety at sea in the EU.

  • International Maritime Organization

    The IMO is the maritime organisation of the United Nations and the most important forum for international cooperation in the area of safety at sea and the prevention of pollution at sea.

  • IALA

    IALA is an international, non-governmental, technical organisation that seeks to harmonise maritime services and infrastructure and develop international guidelines and standards.
