Coastal Fee
Published: 9/14/2011, Updated: 1/2/2012
The coastal fee is calculated on the basis of the vessel's gross tonnage (GT). Vessels in international trade can pay a fee for each individual sailing, an annual fee or a seasonal fee.
Vessels over 500 GT are subject to fees:
- when sailing to or from Norway's inner fairways, and;
- when they only operate in domestic trade.
NOK 0.08 per GT is paid on approach or departure unless an annual or seasonal fee has been paid. The vessel may have called on one or more Norwegian ports between the approach and departure. Vessels in domestic trade can only choose between an annual or seasonal fee. The annual fee is NOK 5,25 per GT, is valid throughout the year, 1/4 of the fee must be paid every quarter, and corresponds to the coastal fee for 33 calls to port. The seasonal fee is NOK 1.48 per GT and is valid for 3 months (quarterly calender months). All the rates quoted are for 2012. The coastal fee has been reduced by 52,9 per cent from 2011 to 2012.
Coastal fee for approach and departure NOK 0.08 per GT
Coastal fee, annual fee NOK 5.25 per GT
Coastal fee, seasonal fee (3 months) NOK 1.48 per GT
Example, a vessel of 4,000 GT
Calls to one or more Norwegian ports: 4,000 GT x NOK 0.08 x 2 = NOK 640,-
Annual fee for an unlimited number of calls to port: 4,000 GT x NOK 5.25 = NOK 21 000,-
The coastal fee is authorised by REG 1995-04-21 no. 375: Regulations relating to the coastal fee.
The coastal fee is authorised by Act no. 19 of 17 April 2009 relating to ports and fairways, Section 23 and REG 1995-04-21 no. 375: Regulations relating to the coastal fee.
