New AIS basestations strengthen maritime traffic monitoring on Svalbard

On September 13, 2019, the Norwegian Coastal Administration deployed a new AIS (Automatic Identification System) basestation on the island of Prins Karls Forland, west of Spitsbergen. This basestation is powered by solar and wind energy, and is the first of its kind in an area without infrastructure.

Digital Route Service is available from Sandefjord to Haugesund

From June 3, 2019, routes and route information will be available for vessels arriving ports in Skagerrak and Rogaland. This is an extension of the Digital Route Service that was launched in the Oslofjord in 2018.

Introducing New Regulations for Pilot Bookings

On April 3, 2018, the Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) will introduce new booking regulations for requesting marine pilots. The regulations will thus be formalized and merged into one set ‒ Regulations on Compulsory Pilotage.

The NCA has established a web camera that transmits live images from Saltstraumen – one of the strongest maelstroms in the world. Live video transmission is an additional service to the automated current forecast, established in September 2017.

Fees for 2018: Reduction in Safety Fees and moderate increase in Pilotage Fee

The fees for 2018 set by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, are noticeably lower than 2017. For 2018, safety fees are reduced by 8.5 per cent on average and the pilot readiness fee is increased by 1.9 per cent on average.

Improved Port Service in SafeSeaNet Norway

On Thursday 28th of September 2017, improved port services will become available in the national ship reporting system SafeSeaNet Norway. The updates will enable ships and agents to communicate digitally with Norwegian ports and port facilities.

You can now work offline in SafeSeaNet Norway

The Norwegian Coastal Administration has introduced a new spreadsheet, which makes it easier to prefill ship and arrival information offline before sending it in SafeSeaNet Norway. The spreadsheet can be filled out at any time, and does not require an internet connection.

Soon ISPS-ships can report electronically before arriving all Norwegian port facilities

Electronic reporting to the Armed Forces
