The project addresses two main challenges:
-
Improving the understanding of how low-sulphur fuel oils (LSFOs) behave after being released into water, in order to enhance response preparedness.
-
Improving the mechanical recovery of low-sulphur fuel oils and shoreline clean-up.
Data will be collected at several locations in Europe. Characterization of the samples’ physical and chemical properties will be carried out to improve knowledge of oil behavior when released into the environment. The results will be used to assess different response measures and as input to modeling of oil properties and drift.
The project consists of five work packages. You can read more about what each of them include further down on the page.
We will conduct three testing periods at facilities in Norway and Finland to identify effective methods for recovering oil from the water.
The project is a collaboration between Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Malta, the Netherlands, France, and Finland.
